Indonesia Has Imported Large Quantities Of Garlic At Stable Prices Since April
2020-09-03 15:16:26On March 18, 2020, the Indonesian Minister of Trade introduced a policy of import relaxation to suppress the soaring in garlic prices in early February. It is understood that the price of garlic was as high as RMB 35 per kilogram.
During the period of May 2020, according to data from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics, approximately 72,651 tons of garlic were imported from China, with a total value of US$7.638 billion. However, the import license that should have expired at the end of May is still valid in June. Therefore, the amount of garlic imported by Indonesia from China in June has doubled compared with the same period in May, reaching 134,808 tons of garlic, with a total value of US$12.86 billion.
According to the data of the garlic imported by Indonesia from China in April, it was about 58.387 tons, valued at US$68 million. This means that the import volume of garlic in June increased by 1308% year-on-year in April, and the import volume of garlic in May increased by 244% year-on-year in April.
According to data from the Strategic Food Price Information Center, since April 2020, China Garlic Price has steadily declined. The price of Indonesian garlic in April was IDR 44,850 per kg, the price of Indonesian garlic in May was IDR 36,050 per kg, and the price of Indonesian garlic in June was IDR 28,850 per kg.
It is reported that the policy of import relaxation is valid from March 19 to May 31. Indonesia imported 58.387 tons of garlic from China in April, valued at US$68 million.
